Medium that has changed my life

Many mediums have had a big impact on my life. Television, cell phones and the internet are the main three but I think that cell phones have probably changed my life the most. Cell phones didn't become very common until I was in high school. My parents each had cell phones when they first came out in case of an emergency but I didn't get one until my freshman year of high school.
When I first got my cell phone not many others had them so there wasn't much for me to do with it. I called who I wanted to talk to and that was it. For a year or two that was all I used my cell phone for until I discovered how to text. From that point on my cell phone became a bigger part of my life especially once all of my friends also learned how to text.
Texting brought up the problem of sending a text to the wrong person or wondering why it was taking someone so long to respond but for the most part I liked it. As cell phones became more sophisticated there were many other things that the cell phone allowed you to do. Not only could you call or text but you could also take pictures and videos and then share them with others. You could also go on the internet and have navigation.
When I finally got a cell phone with a camera I began to take a lot of pictures and would send them to friends and family. I loved having a camera and a phone in one because I felt like it made things easier sometimes. I've never really used the internet on my phone too much because there haven't been too many times i've needed to go on the internet that badly that I couldn't wait until I got home but the navigation is used pretty frequently.
Without my cell phone I wouldn't have had a way to contact anyone when I was in a car accident or when I would get lost or when there was an emergency so I've been thankful for that. I also know that there are many places I wouldn't have driven to if it wasn't for the navigation on my phone reassuring me that I would be able to get to my destination at some point.
Although cell phones have had many good impacts on my life there are some problems. It seems as though many of us can't seem to live without them. We've gotten so used to everyone having one with them at all times that we expect responses quickly and sometimes even feel lost without them. When I went to Italy three years ago I couldn't bring my cell phone with me and I felt strange not having my phone to check what time it was and to not be able to call or text someone right away when there was something I wanted to tell them so when I returned home I had a new appreciation for it. Sometimes I like to leave it in another room or at home or turn it off so I realize I don't need it with me all the time but other times I don't want to put it down.
