Research question

Question: With the ability to fast forward through commercials how will advertisers make up for the loss of attention towards their advertisement?

Hypothesis: More opportunities to advertise are needed because commercials aren't as important as they used to be. If more options aren't created, the other ways of advertising must be better utilized. Advertising in shows/movies is more important than ever (Example: The wide variety of foods, drinks, brands used in the movie Talledega Nights)

Testing method: Create a survey to find out how advertisers catch peoples attention the most (posters, billboards, advertisements on websites, etc.). Tracking the number of people who click on certain advertisements or links from different websites would help find out which advertisements get the most attention.

  1. Although I do feel like Kim is right, with the ability to fast foward commercials it will clearly make a difference with the amount of people that view each commercials. But T.V. commercials have been out past by advertisement on the web. The web is cheeper to advertise on and to add to that it allows the "surfer" to find more information at the click of a button. Which is better for everyone, the advertisers, the web page, "facebook" and the clients that are being sought out.

    We life in an information society were people are looking for something when they want it.

I agree with Kim's hypothesis that businesses need to look at other available avenues for advertising due to the fact that via television people now have the option of fast forwarding through commercials. I think this is an important research question for any company that invests a lot of money in their advertisments. Where will they reach the people? Where will they be most effective?

    I also agree with Tony that the internet is the most current and effective way to advertise. It is cheap for the business and it is so convienient for the buyer, they can even purchase or easily find information on anything they see advertised in just a few clicks. You typically can't just buy things you see on TV in just a few minutes (with the exception of a few commercials that provide a telephone number), which makes the internet even better for the seller when compared to TV.

  3. i disagree becasue commercials will always be good adverisements. i mean companies are paying so much money to get their advertisments during the super bowl and people dont fast foward through that. i mean i personally love watching commercials and how people advertise certain things. i personally think that companies arent getting that effected by people fast fowarding the commmercials.
